I love a chocolate brownie any day of the week, but add some orange to that chocolate and it's next level! These Chocolate Orange Brownies are as gooey and fudgey as you would want from a brownie. Then I've added orange extract and Terry's Chocolate Orange pieces - both chopped up inside and segments on top. These Chocolate Orange Brownies are gooey and delicious! The chocolate orange on top is extra yummy, I do love when chocolate is baked just a little bit, it almost makes it taste better!! They are a chocolate orange dream, and so easy to make too!

How to make Chocolate Orange Brownies
Start by melting the dark chocolate and butter together in a pan on a low heat. Let it cool for 10 minutes.
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, dark brown sugar and orange extract. Add the chocolate mixture to the egg mixture, whisking constantly as you pour it in. Then add the plain flour and baking powder and mix them in.
Stir in chopped up chocolate orange segments then pour the batter into a lined traybake tin. Bake the brownies for 20 minutes, then place some frozen chocolate orange segments on top and bake for another 5 minutes.

Do you have to use dark brown sugar for the Chocolate Orange Brownies?
No, you can also use light brown sugar or caster sugar. I do recommend using either light or dark brown sugar if you can as it adds extra fudgeyness to the brownies!
What can you use instead of orange extract?
I get my orange extract either from Amazon (Nielsen Massey is my favourite brand) or from a supermarket baking section like Tesco or Waitrose. If you can't get hold of it, you can stir the zest of one orange into these brownies for that extra orange hit.

I have just baked these. Can you make these with milk chocolate instead of dark? Thanks
thebakingexplorer
Hi Lucy, you can but I find that making brownie with milk chocolate makes them more greasy/oily. They are much better with dark chocolate!
Pam

These are cooling off now, my son who is the chocoholic is really looking forward to trying later. The smell was just divine when they were taken out of the oven. Unfortunately I won't be able to try for myself as am gf now but already thinking of adapting the recipe. Hoping as there isn't too much flour in the bake it should turn out fine.
They have just been cut and my son's face was a picture, a definite winner.
A keeper for sure😉

I'm so happy your son enjoyed the brownies Sandra!! Please let me know if you make them gf, I've not tried it myself but as you say it should be fine as it's not much flour.

Excellent and easy recipe to use. Brownies are delicious. Unfortunately I had no plain flour, but had already started the process so I used SR flour. Took a bit longer to cook, and not just as gooey, but tastes super yummy. I used all the left over chocolate from Christmas and melted it all down instead of dark chocolate. Will defo use this recipe again.

I'm so pleased to hear you enjoyed the brownies despite the different flour! Great idea for using up Christmas chocolate 🙂
Emily
These were absolutely amazing- gooey and moist just how you want them to be. I couldn’t find any orange extract in my supermarket so used half the amount of dark choc in recipe and for the other half used terrys chocolate orange. Delicious

Thanks so much for your lovely feedback Emily! That's so great to know that using the chocolate orange worked so well - thank you for sharing!
